Fiona Reynolds, CEO of the UN Principles for Responsible Investments (PRI), gave the opening keynote. In her speech she addressed the COVID-19 pandemic, stating that the crisis has presented an opportunity to reshape a future that is green, inclusive and sustainable. Fiona touched upon some of the key components of the PRI's focus over the next three to five years. These components do not require new plans – instead, existing frameworks, including the Sustainable Development Goals, need to be implemented.
Through the recovery and the years that follow, investors have a key role to play as they are "on the top of the investment chain." Therefore, the PRI will be working with investors to help realize this more prosperous reality. This will include an emphasis on moving beyond risk and return to have real-world impact, a focus on social issues, and more ambitious stewardship practices as well as strong action on climate. In line with this approach, the PRI has launched a high-level framework that enables investors to work individually or collectively to increase positive outcomes while reducing negative ones.
On a final note, Fiona emphasized that the global investor community can and must reshape the future and build back better.
