GLOBAL PERSPECTIVES ON IMPACT INVESTING
In his closing keynote of the Phenix Virtual Impact Summit, Eric Usher (Head of UNEP Finance Initiative) elaborated on the history of global sustainable finance initiatives, initiated and supported by the UNEP Finance Initiative, among others are the UN Principles of Sustainable Investments, the Principles of Sustainable Insurance, and the Principles of Responsible Banking.
He further elaborated on shifting notions over time, which increasingly move from process-oriented to outcome-oriented approaches. Impact Investing, according to Eric, “is no longer a niche but has started to take hold” as investor duties have become increasingly important, making ESG considerations a key instrument within the industry.
With the PRI and the Generation Foundation, the UNEP Finance Initiative is currently establishing a new program and legal framework that incorporates impact needs as an integral part of investment processes and the overall investment community.
