By broadening the search for innovators and leveling the geography of knowledge, impact investors can elevate these investments as an asset class of choice, thereby facilitating a more effective recovery from the pandemic.

With a particular focus on Asia, the panel discussed the sectors and industries that drive the region’s growth and the main social and environmental challenges institutional investors need to address for a faster recovery. Throughout the discussion, the panelists highlighted that Asia represents a large market with room for impact investing, despite the pandemic. It was emphasized that the Asian economy is resilient and has overcome multiple crises, coming back stronger every time.

On this basis, Sandeep Aneja (Founder & Managing Partner, Kaizenvest) expects the Asian market to become more efficient and increasingly exposed to technology-driven transparency in a year from now. While many investors have previously allocated capital towards China and India, Dave Richards (Co-Founder and Managing Partner, Capria Ventures) pointed towards South East Asia as an upcoming market presenting new opportunities due to its “critical mass of talent and innovation”. Some of the panelists' key investment areas include the human capital sector, gender, and sustainability.
