Asset owners and asset managers - that seek financial returns at market rates - can use integrated impact and financial data to allocate capital and address urgent social/environmental challenges.

The IMP initiative Impact Frontiers Collaboration has developed a four steps framework to help investors in their decision making. Based on this framework, the last panel of the day answered the question: how to improve decision making through a clear, consistent and comparable use of risks, returns, and impact information?

The panel demonstrated that a high level of innovation exists within the impact investing sector. According to Christopher Greenwald (Head of Sustainable and Impact Investing Research and Stewardship, Impax Asset Management), the sector has managed to integrate and match company’s external and operational impact, which an increasing number of investors focus on. This objective requires a high level of collaboration which facilitates the collection of data and information and thereby clarifies expectations.

This data not only contributes to measurement processes, but can further function as a management and engagement tool, according to Allison Spector (Director of Sustainability, Nuveen). Anthony Berkley, Vice President of Prudential Financial reflected on the industry by stating that “in the past, impact needed investments, now investments need impact”.
