Moderator: Manuel Adamini, Professional Speaker and Moderator

Speakers:

  • Brenda Kramer, Senior Advisor Responsible Investment, PGGM
  • Edith Siermann, Head of Fixed Income Solutions & Responsible Investing, NN Investment Partners
  • Giulia Genuardi, Head of Sustainability Planning and Performance, Enel

This panel takes a closer look at the growing demand for Green and Climate Bonds by addressing how asset owners and managers can deliver quality products to the market. Hence, a focus is laid on investors' different tools to select funds, avoid greenwashing, and how investors can align with the upcoming EU Taxonomy Regulations.

The panelists described the EU Taxonomy as a clear guideline enhancing the European Union's role as a leading example for governments worldwide. Nonetheless, it was emphasized that a profound transformation of companies' core business models remain crucial alongside financial transitions.

Edith Siermann (Head of Fixed Income Solutions & Responsible Investing, NN Partners) explained that even though green bond strategies may exist, companies must prove that they are genuinely committed to a greener economy for all their operations. An overall positive trend that was identified throughout the panel is the green bonds market. It is no longer only a European instrument, but the market is broadening with an increased number of US issuers stepping in. Hence, the market can be expected to grow as investors realize its importance in contributing to the energy transition. Debt as a financial instrument, the panel concluded, is "absolutely essential."
