The OECD have estimated that due to the pandemic, the scale of the SDG funding gap has increased from 2.5 trillion to 4.2 trillion USD.
This panel of experts discuss how their portfolios have been affected, highlight specific SDGs that have been set back and how they have learned to positively adapt and succeed in these unprecedented times.
Sharing insights, Justina Alders-Sheya, Fund Manager, Financial Inclusion Funds at Triodos Investment Management reflects on how the crisis shone light on many economic and social inequalities and that “we should not go back to normal, as normal wasn’t ideal”, the next step is to come together as impact investors and redefine what the new normal should be.
Edward Lees, Co-Head of Environmental Strategies Group at BNP Paribas Asset Management and Tomasz Kozlowski, Head of Mandate and Product Development at the European Investment Fund support the urgency for change and reflect on how impact investors can come together and work collaboratively to achieve SDG 17, Partnership for the goals.
The panel also discuss various themes which have been positively accelerated due to pandemic which includes a systemic shift within the global community who embrace sustainability and increased interest in impact investing. Although progress is being made, the panel agree there is still a long way to go and further global alignment on universal existential issues is needed to help achieve the 2030 goals.
