Sarah Gordon, the CEO of the Impact Investing Institute opens the Summit with a powerful keynote speech. She addressed what needs to be done to mobilise capital towards the SDGs on the size and scale needed, highlighting the consequences of not meeting the Sustainable Development Goals on time, which puts our survival at stake. She brings to light the drivers of impact investments such as governmental regulations, consumer demands, and corporate responsible investment policies and best practices. The CEO stresses that to achieve the SDGs by 2030, it is necessary to have a massive mobilization, from the private and public sectors. Alongside financial return, impact investing focuses on fostering positive impacts on people and the planet, showing that risk-adjusted financial returns can co-exist with positive social-environmental benefits.
Global efforts by now, have a clear focus on climate action, but environmental action must be taken with a social lens. In addition, the SDGs' implementation highlights that environmental, social and governance factors are interlinked and interdependent. She concludes urging investors to build a culture of impact consideration across the investment chain and in order to do so, there is a need for clear and transparent reporting standards.
